ME, an ESTONIAN! AN EXHIBITION ABOUT BOLD PEOPLE
The new exhibition “Me, Estonian! An Exhibition about Bold People”, which will open in the History Museum’s Maarjamäe Palace Stables, helps viewers understand what it means to be Estonian. To do so, it takes a look at the country through the eyes of the sometimes-amused onlooker, providing a different perspective and new insights into the essence of Estonian identity. -
INCLUSION OR ISOLATION? MULTI-ETHNIC ESTONIA
This exhibition, presented one hundred years after the adoption of the Law on Cultural Self-Government for National Minorities, invites you to think about the multi-ethnic history of Estonia, the organisation of diverse societies and the rights of minorities. -
ASTOUNDING STORIES ABOUT THEATRE AND MUSIC
Over the course of 100 years, numerous artefacts have been accumulated in the Theatre and Music Museum and they are as special as the stories they tell and the people who owned them. Through these stories, a world opens filled with sadness and joy, new beginnings and final goodbyes, eternal love and little mischiefs, sporting rivalry and the joy of play. We have selected 100 objects from the museum collection for the exhibition and accompanied them with stories and pictures. -
CHAMBER OF LEGENDS
The Estonian History Museum has recently updated the permanent exhibition at the Great Guild Hall, introducing a selection of rare artefacts associated with extraordinary legends on the underground floor of the building. Taking centre stage within the exhibition is a bottle containing a hidden letter from 1827 that was discovered during the renovation of the Tallinn Town Hall Pharmacy. -
WHY IS ESTONIA NOT A KINGDOM?
The charm of history lies in asking questions and finding answers to them. The less evidence, the more exciting it is! The identity and power relations of the society in prehistoric times have generated a lot of discussion for the past couple of decades. With the exhibition ‘Why is Estonia not a kingdom?’ we wish to highlight these topics again and ask how society functioned in Estonia from the latter centuries of the prehistoric times to the Saint George’s Night Uprising in the Middle Ages. What went differently or similarly compared to neighbouring countries that had already established their own kingdoms or principalities? -
MY FREE COUNTRY
The exhibition “My Free Country” in Maarjamäe Palace takes visitors on a journey through 100 years, from the birth of the Republic of Estonia to the modern day.
Visitors can go through eight rooms presenting an overview of the important events of the era through the displayed artefacts, texts and design of each room. -
SÄREV THEATRE ROOM
Särev Theatre Room is the only museum in Estonia dedicated to theatre personalities. -
TAKE ONE
The exhibition will move through the different stages of film making in the world behind the camera – we learn about the role that the script, sets, editing, lighting and sound plays and we hear the stories of a number of film makers. We jump aboard the film score train, walk on the red carpet to the premier screening and face the critics. -
THE CHILDRENS' REPUBLIC
The Children’s Republic is a fun learning environment where children can playfully get to know the story and role of state symbols, attributes, authorities and so on. Based on Estonia, the organisation and functioning of a democratic state is introduced through creative display items. -
OUTDOOR EXHIBITION OF SOVIET MONUMENTS
Maarjamäe Palace park offers a phenomenal opportunity to see discarded Soviet monuments that Estonian History Museum has gathered up for a few decades. The collection is the largest in Estonia.
