ME, an ESTONIAN! AN EXHIBITION ABOUT BOLD PEOPLE
The new exhibition “Me, an Estonian! An Exhibition about Bold People”, which will open in the History Museum’s Maarjamäe Palace Stables, helps viewers understand what it means to be Estonian. To do so, it takes a look at the country through the eyes of the sometimes-amused onlooker, providing a different perspective and new insights into the essence of Estonian identity.
The History Museum’s new exhibition is an engaging video project that tells the stories of people born abroad who have settled in Estonia after the restoration of its independence and now consider it their homeland. The exhibition features video interviews with eight people of different nationalities and social backgrounds that help us understand how the people of a nation perceive themselves and what are the elements of the identity of the modern, mobile and connected person.
The interviewees featured in the exhibition come from Venezuela, Japan, France, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Turkey and other parts of the world.
In addition to the videos, the exhibition presents two items connected to the lives of each interviewee. The first item reflects their origin and national identity, while the second symbolises Estonia as they perceive it.
